Get started with Agentbase

A practical guide to creating, testing, and sharing your agent.

Create your agent

Sign in, choose New agent, and give it a name. Write instructions that explain its job, how it should answer, and what it should avoid. You can also start from a template in the agent catalog.

Choose Private to keep an unfinished draft. You can add instructions later in Build. Before publishing, replace example text with instructions for your own agent.

Add knowledge

Open your agent’s Knowledge tab to add source material. File uploads accept PDF, Markdown, and text, up to 4 MiB per file. These are creator knowledge uploads; public chat has its own attachment limits.

Website and YouTube imports depend on availability shown in Knowledge. If an import is unavailable, upload a supported file instead. Check that the source finishes adding and has extracted passages before expecting it to appear in answers.

Keep the Knowledge search tool attached in Build so the agent can look up your sources. A template’s reference links are not necessarily imported knowledge: check its source details. Web search is a separate tool and may be unavailable; adding a link to Knowledge does not enable it.

Test and refine

Use Test or Preview in Build to try questions your audience might ask. Ask a question supported by your sources and one they cannot answer. Refine the instructions and sources when the answer is incomplete or unsupported.

Open Look & Voice to change the greeting, suggested questions, and visual style. Check the phone preview as well as a larger view. Save your changes before leaving.

Publish and share

When your agent is ready, choose Publish. In Channels, the Web connection provides the public link and an embed snippet. Open the link in a signed-out browser to check what a visitor sees before sharing it.

Publishing saves a live version. Later draft edits do not change that version until you publish again. Choose Unpublish to turn off the public Web connection.

If something does not work

  • If publishing is blocked, check that your agent has its own instructions and save the draft.
  • If a tool is unavailable, keep editing and use the tools or knowledge sources that are available.
  • If a public link does not open, check the Web connection in Channels and publish the agent.
  • If a reply fails, use the recovery action shown in chat. A retry starts another attempt.
